We are delighted to welcome the best of Bolgheri to Bentley’s, with a very special Wine Maker’s Dinner!
Taking place on Friday 10th March, we’ll be pouring a selection of the finest cuvées from Poggio al Tesoro, paired with a menu specifically designed to highlight the flavour profiles of Italy’s most exciting appellations.
Teaming with experience from wine-making in Valpolicella, siblings Marilisa and Walter Allegrini made their move to Tuscany in 2001. They discovered the dream of Bolgheri, a place by the sea with the kind of soil, sun and breeze that could make wine to rival the best of Bordeaux. They acquired over 70 hectares of land and called their new estate Poggio al Tesoro, meaning hill of treasure.
From the planting of the estates’ vines to the harvesting processes, creating harmony with the characteristics of the environment is at the heart of their decision-making. The terroirs on the estate of rocky sands were selected to grow grapes that deliver concentration and power, such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, whereas the more mineral-rich, clay areas were planted with Merlot, which provides elegance, aroma and harmony.
The flagship of the Poggio al Tesoro output – Sondraia Bolgheri Superiore D.O.C – is produced with the best grapes from the parcels across the estate. This is a new kind of Super Tuscan, expressing the richness and complexity of this extraordinary territory. We are delighted to be pouring this, alongside some other exceptional wines, at our Wine Maker’s Dinner.
